Honduras Medical [FULL]

This team will be partnering with Dyer Rural Hospital, also known as the Jungle Hospital, located in the Cangrejal River Cove of Honduras.  The Jungle Hospital is a primary care facility bringing health, hope, and healing to 34 villages in the surrounding mountain area. The Jungle Hospital is a Kingdom Builders partner and is run by Dr. Martin and Wendy Williams.
For more info on the Jungle Hospital, you can visit their website: www.junglehospital.com.

Team Leader: Amber Alaniz

Registration for the team is on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve your spot fill out the online registration and submit your deposit. Registration will close on January 29, 2024, or when all spots are filled.

Who is this trip for?
We need medical providers of all specialties; General Practitioners, PAs, NPs, Pediatricians, OB/GYNs, Surgeons, Radiologists, Nurses, Lab and X-Ray Techs, EMTs, Dentists and Dental Hygienists, and Pharmacists. Medical students are welcome too!

Translators! Can you speak Spanish? We aim to partner each medical provider with a translator to help facilitate communication between the patient and provider.

Not medical? We have space for you too! There are limited spots but our non-medical team members will have plenty of opportunities to serve alongside the medical team by helping to register patients, serving as scribes, entertaining children, and even helping with some general labor around the facility.

Your passport MUST NOT EXPIRE before JANUARY 6, 2025.

Where will we stay?
Our teams stay in the dormitory at the Jungle Hospital.

What will we eat?
All of your meals while in Honduras will be provided by the Jungle Hospital. We will eat local foods and get a taste of the Honduran culture and customary foods they eat. It’s tough to accommodate some food allergies in Honduras. If you have food allergies, please notify us in advance.

Though not drastically different, the customary foods of the jungle do differ slightly from those in the city. The meals that will be prepared for you at the Jungle Hospital are homemade and unique in that they add an American twist to customary Honduran food.

What should I bring?
Each trip is different and you’ll be given a packing list for this specific trip at the mission trip info meeting before our departure. You will bring all the basic necessities for hygiene and living. The attire is mainly scrubs or lightweight pants, t-shirts, tennis shoes, and sandals. The climate is very manageable and allows for many different types of clothing to be comfortable.

Do I need vaccines?
The question of vaccinations is left to the discretion of the team member and their physician. The CDC does have recommendations for vaccinations if traveling to Honduras. Please visit their website for those specifics.
https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/honduras

As of February 15, 2023, it is no longer required to have proof of a COVID vaccination or proof of a negative COVID test in place of the vaccination to enter Honduras.

Pre-Trip Team Meetings:
Your trip leader will reach out to you about team meetings before the trip. This will be an opportunity for you to meet your team, begin coordinating tools and supplies needed, and learn more details about what is recommended to pack.

Cancelations / Refunds:
If for any reason you cannot or prefer not to go, we can try to refund/credit as much of the trip cost as possible, or we can donate your fee to someone else to make the trip. The timing of your cancelation and deposits paid to vendors will determine how much can be refunded.
